NASA Certifies Alcoa as Sole Supplier of Al-Li Alloy for Ares 1

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that NASA has certified its Davenport, Iowa, facility as the only supplier in the U.S. to produce aluminum-lithium alloy 2195 thin plate for the Ares 1 crew launch vehicle, the rocket that will enable astronauts to explore space beyond low earth orbit with the goal of reaching the moon by 2020.

Alcoa to Supply Armor Plate for New Army Vehicle

DAVENPORT, Iowa & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alcoa announced today that the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has selected the company’s North American Rolled Products business to supply a need for aluminum armor plate to support the new MRAP armored vehicle program. MRAP vehicles are designed to survive IED (improvised explosive devise) and ambush attacks.

Center of Excellence Opens Doors

Our ABS Center of Excellence opened its doors to our first group of students on November 6. The North America Center of Excellence, housed in Building 800C, will train all levels of Alcoa management in the use of the seven stability tools of ABS.
