Alcoa-Köfém awarded first prize in the Healthy Working Environment Program for second straight year.

This is the second occasion that the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) has invited applications for the Healthy Working Environment Award, which is divided into three categories, large and middle-sized companies, and small enterprises. 21 applications were received for the year 2004.

The AmCham Healthy Working Environment Program has been in operation for two years, with the participation of more than 60 companies. Alcoa-Köfém Co. Ltd. joined this initiative at the start, and undertook a leading role in the realization of the program. This program involves the member companies of AmCham voluntarily joining the National Public Health Program, initiated by the Ministry of Health. The primary aim of this program is to help enable AmCham member companies to realize a wide range of the conditions necessary for a healthy working environment at their premises, in their offices, and at their industrial units. The criteria for joining this program include the areas of medical care in the workplace, healthy nutrition, exercise, physical training and ergonomics, as well as areas of mental health. When these criteria have been fulfilled, together with the other requirements of the program, AmCham then awards the "Healthy Working Environment Certificate" to the member companies/organizations involved.

The applications received were evaluated by a board of judges comprising well-known experts, the chairman of this board being Dr. Gábor Galgóczy, Director of the National Public Health, Labor Hygiene and Works Hygiene Institute (OKK- OMFI).

As in 2003, the first prize in the year 2004 was awarded to Alcoa-Köfém Co. Ltd. for its outstanding services in labor and health care, as well as its achievements in the fields of works safety, health and environmental protection.

The award, which was presented in the WestEnd Ballroom of the Budapest Hilton by Dr. Gábor Galgóczy, in the presence of the USA ambassador to Hungary George H. Walker and leading officials of AmCham, was received on behalf of Alcoa-Köfém Co. Ltd. by Deputy Managing Director Dr. Béla Forgó, on November 16, 2004.
