The plant at Soest, originally named Alcoa Automotive Structures GmbH, officially started production of automobile parts in April 1994 and changed its name to Alcoa Automotive GmbH in 1999. Today our Soest plant is one of the largest employers of the region and actively contributes to a variety of charity projects.
The production started with the spaceframe components of the first generation of the Audi A8. Soon the range of products was expanded. Besides Audi, customers like Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, Karmann, and DaimlerChrysler could be gained.
More than 200 different aluminium cast and extrusion parts for the automobile industry are produced at Soest by using a variety of automated processes.
Weldable cast components are produced at the Soest Plant by using the Alcoa Vacural Die Casting (AVDC) Process. Thin-walled components with a minimum wall thickness of 2 mm and a maximum weight of 20 kg can be produced.
In addition to the AVDC process, Soest has the capability to produce finished extrusions and to make sub-assemblies. Finished extrusions can be formed by stretch bending and hydro forming. The parts can be machined in state-of-the-art machining centers as well as heat- and surface-treated. The most common processes for these parts are MIG, WIG and Laserwelding.
Alcoa Automotive GmbH is certified to ISO/TS 16949:2002 and ISO 14001:1996.
Today, the Soest location employs about 300 people with three shifts operating per day. The continuous international success at the Soest plant is attributed to modern equipment, an excellent infrastructure, reliable logistics, and highly qualified and motivated personnel. |
