Europe-Africa Song Bird Migration
2003
Jody Warner (LaPorte, Indiana, USA) and Jean-Pierre Barry (Québec, Canada) will join Dr. Gabor Lövei (Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences), Dr. Samuel Muchai (National Museums of Kenya), and their colleagues at one of three banding stations along the migration route of an estimated 500 million birds flying from Europe to sub-Saharan Africa. From captured birds, the scientists hope to gain insight into how birds refuel during migration and what their condition tells about habitat degradation along the way. August 16-27 (Note: This expedition received the 2004 Aviva/Earthwatch Award for Climate Change Research, which includes a grant for additional research activities.)
