Helping communities, building partnerships, changing lives. That's been the focus of Alcoa Foundation for more than half a century. Our mission is to actively invest in the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide, combining funding with hands-on support from our active employee volunteers. In recent years, we've been a key partner in new Alcoa growth communities around the world.
The Foundation's grants address global and local needs in over 30 countries by partnering with Alcoa communities. Key areas of focus are conservation and sustainability; global education and workplace skills; business and community partnerships; and safe and healthy children and families. |
2007 Highlights
- Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation invested over US$49 million in philanthropic giving.
- Alcoa Foundation made 848 grants totaling US$28 million to 1,111 organizations in more than 36 countries, including investments in new Alcoa communities such as Iceland.
- Alcoa employees volunteered more than 634,000 hours in community service projects, resulting in approximately US$3.7 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in 28 countries.
- In 17 countries with developing economies, Alcoa Foundation contributed over US$8 million to projects focused on eradicating hunger, increasing access to universal education, combating diseases, and ensuring environmental sustainability.
- A total of 30 academic fellows and 42 practitioner fellows worldwide took part in the Foundation's Conservation & Sustainability Fellowship Program, a US$8.6 million six-year program to advance research in the areas of conservation and sustainability.
